Industrial waste in Nghe An is not from Formosa
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 19, Mr. Ha Van Thong, Chief of Dien Hong Commune Police, Dien Chau District, said that he had drawn up a record of administrative fines for the family of Mr. Nguyen Hong Phan (born in 1968), residing in Dien Hong Commune, Dien Chau District, for transporting scrap and burning it, causing environmental pollution.

Mr. Thong affirmed: "The information that people discovered on the evening of July 18 that a truck carrying industrial waste was dumped at the landfill in Dien Hong commune, Dien Chau district was not waste from Formosa, it was just scrap that Mr. Phan had purchased a long time ago, due to the large quantity, it was brought to the landfill to burn for iron."
According to Mr. Phan Huy Cuong, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dien Chau district, "If we directly verify it, it is just ordinary scrap, not waste from Formosa. We have worked with the People's Committee of Dien Hong commune to draw up a record to fine Mr. Phan for causing environmental pollution."

As previously reported, at around 10pm on July 18, after receiving a report from local residents about a truck carrying industrial waste dumped at the Dien Hong commune landfill, Dien Chau district, suspected to be Formosa waste, the commune police arrived to handle the situation.
The owner of the shipment, Mr. Nguyen Van Phan, confessed that he bought the goods from many places in Nghe An province and then burned them to get the iron. The shipment included many paint cans, oil barrels, and iron buckets containing various types of paint, not from Formosa.

After the incident was posted on Facebook, many people suspected that it was Formosa waste, causing panic among the public.
