(Baonghean.vn) - The Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Council of Ukraine) believes that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has shown passivity in international affairs, including implementing too few policies towards Russia. This has led to the consequence that Ukraine will be left out of the gas transportation system.

"This week we have faced a failure in foreign policy," said Alexei Gonarenko, a Verkhovna Rada deputy.

According to this MP, on October 30, Denmark granted a construction permit for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project on the Danish continental shelf, right in the Baltic Sea. Thus, the last obstacle to the Nord Stream 2 project has been removed.

One of the goals of Nord Stream 2 is to partially replace the transit of gas through Ukraine. Thanks to this gas transit, Ukraine earns about $ 3 million / year. However, it should be recalled that the contract between Russia and Ukraine expires on December 31.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project from Russia to Germany with a length of 1,200 km, has the capacity to transport 55 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe.

The pipeline project was previously suspended following a decision by the Danish government. Denmark did not issue a permit, forcing the Nord Stream 2 consortium to seek an alternative route that would only pass through the Exclusive Economic Zone and would not require Copenhagen's approval.

However, with the issuance of the Danish license on October 30, the project will be ready for operation before the end of 2019.

Mr. Gonarenko expressed dissatisfaction with President Zelensky's passivity in relations with Hungary and the Czech Republic, whose prime ministers and presidents have friendly relations with Russia.

Earlier, Czech President Milos Zeman stated that Ukraine and the international community should recognize the fact that Crimea has become part of Russia. In addition, recently, in Budapest, negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban were held.
