Lessons learned in responding to storm No. 2

During the month, the sectors in the Internal Affairs Sector coordinated and implemented tasks to ensure plans, political security, social order and safety, and traffic were ensured. The work of grasping the situation at the grassroots level in a timely manner, and a number of complicated cases were handled right at the grassroots level.
The authorities continue to direct and coordinate many measures to ensure security and order, especially religious security. Absolutely protect the safety of political, economic, cultural, educational events, international delegations, and high-ranking Party leaders visiting and working in Nghe An.

From June 15 to July 15, agencies and units in the province received 536 citizens, an increase of 11% compared to June 2017; received 706 petitions, a decrease of 5.5% compared to June 2017. Up to now, all levels and sectors have resolved 30/46 cases, reaching a rate of 65.2%.
Regarding drug crimes, the authorities discovered and arrested 146 cases, 167 subjects, seized 11.93 kg of heroin; 26.6 grams and 70 synthetic drug pills; 3.5 kg of crystal meth, 6 grams of marijuana. Regarding economic and environmental crimes, they discovered and arrested 240 cases, 241 subjects, seized 14.5 kg of explosives, 17 cubic meters of various types of wood, 332 kg of animals and food violating food safety regulations and many smuggled goods worth about 1.8 billion VND.
At the conference, delegates focused on assessing and drawing lessons from the response to storm No. 2. Despite timely preparation and notification, it still left serious consequences. According to initial statistics, in Nghe An province, storm No. 2 killed 5 people, collapsed 131 houses, flooded 810 hectares of rice fields, damaged 7,200 hectares of annual crops, broke nearly 3,000 trees, 3,873 electric poles, etc.

On the sea route, on the morning of July 17, the VTB 26 cargo ship with a capacity of 5,100 tons, carrying 4,700 tons of coal and 13 crew members on the way from Quang Ninh to Cua Lo, encountered storm No. 2 and had to anchor in Hon Ngu area, Cua Lo town. After sending a distress signal, it went missing. Currently, 7 crew members, 3 bodies and 3 people are missing.
Some other issues that were focused on were border security, mountainous areas, and ethnic minorities. Although they were basically stable, inland, illegal migration of Mong people to Laos still occurred.
The social order and crime situation is still complicated, traffic accidents, social evils, and the number of fires and explosions increased compared to the previous month. During the month, there were 19 traffic accidents, killing 19 people and injuring 10 people; there were 6 fires causing property damage of about 175 million VND.
On that basis, the delegates attending the conference agreed on a number of key tasks for August 2017, focusing on coordinating the implementation of many measures to ensure political security and social order and safety, preventing passive and unexpected situations from occurring; promptly detecting and strictly and legally handling opposing elements.
Strengthen and do well the work of internal political protection, coordinate to ensure safety for political and cultural events taking place in the area.
In addition, promptly overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 2, continue to deploy rescue measures, search for 3 missing sailors in Nghe An waters.
