(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of November 2, Dusseldorf airport in western Germany was shocked when it discovered a bomb left over from World War II. Although it was destroyed, the bomb caused 7 flights to be canceled and 34 others to be delayed.
Authorities said a 125-kilogram bomb from World War II was found on the night of November 1 and early morning of November 2 near a runway at Dusseldorf airport. Bomb experts said it was an acid-fused bomb and could have caused terrible consequences if not discovered in time.

Airport security forces established a safety zone with a perimeter of about 500m from where the bomb was discovered and allowed the bomb to detonate. After destroying the bomb, security measures were lifted and flights were resumed.
According to information from Dusseldorf airport, flights were disrupted between 7:45 a.m. and 8:48 a.m. Seven flights, including two departures and five arrivals, were canceled, while 34 other flights were also delayed.
A spokesman for Dusseldorf airport said that to rule out the possibility of remaining bombs at the airport, authorities will conduct checks in other areas over the next few nights. Dusseldorf airport is known to be the third largest airport in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich airports.
Although it has been 70 years since the end of World War II, Germany still has many unexploded bombs left over. These bombs were mostly from the fierce Allied air raids on Nazi Germany. And according to preliminary estimates by authorities, there are still about 3,000 bombs in the basements of the capital Berlin.
