On the first morning of the new year, ask for 'letter luck' at Qua Son temple

Located at the foot of Qua Mountain, along the Lam River in Boi Son Commune (Do Luong District), Qua Son Temple is one of the "four sacred animals" of Nghe An. In the first days of the year, many people eagerly come here to visit the spring, offer prayers for peace and ask for "letters" to wish for good things and luck in the new year.

According to documents of the People's Committee of Do Luong district, Qua Son temple worships Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang (the 8th prince of King Ly Cong Uan), who was the Governor of Nghe An from 1041-1057. In his position, Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang made many glorious achievements in fighting the enemy to protect the border, building Nghe An into a prosperous region, a reliable base of the royal court. With his great achievements, after his death, the people of Nghe An built many temples to worship him, including Qua Son temple. Qua Son temple festival is held from January 19-20 every year. On the morning of the first day of Tet, the crowd of people flocking to Qua Son Temple is getting bigger and bigger. On the left side of the temple yard, many tourists stop by the calligraphy booth. Although there are two main calligraphy styles: Vietnamese calligraphy and Chinese calligraphy. However, most tourists love Vietnamese calligraphy because it is liberal, close, easy to understand and shows love for the writing of their people. Many families living in other provinces also make pilgrimages to Qua Son Temple to pray for peace and luck in the new year and do not forget to "ask for luck" in the first words of the year. Since 2018, the Department of Culture and Information of Do Luong district, with the desire to spread the beauty of traditional culture to visitors from near and far when coming to Qua Son temple, invited Mr. Nguyen Hoc Ha (born in 1983) to give calligraphy at the beginning of the year here to create a highlight when people come to the temple. Mr. Hoang Huu Thanh (born in 1956) - a son of the land of Luong said that asking for the first words of the year has become a habit for him and his children and grandchildren when Tet comes and Spring comes. "Every year, after performing the ancestral ceremony at home, our family makes a pilgrimage to Qua Son temple. For Mr. Thanh, asking for words is also a way for him to teach his children and grandchildren traditional values ​​and the profound meaning of customs.
