The search for flight MH370 is about to end

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 14, Australian officials said the international investigation team searching for the missing plane MH370 is conducting its final sweep of the search area in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the Joint Agency Coordination Center (JACC) of Australia, the search for missing flight MH370 in the Atlantic Ocean will end in January 2017. Previously, in July, Malaysia, Australia and China agreed to stop the search if no trace of the plane or new evidence to determine the location of the crashed plane is found.

The Fugro Equator, a search ship, set out from the port of Fremantle in Western Australia on its final voyage to scan the 120,000 square kilometer seabed where ships have searched for the missing MH370 for more than 1,000 days without success, the JACC said. This time, China has reduced its search role as the ship equipped with sonar equipment ended its search mission and returned to Shanghai.

The search for missing flight MH370 has so far failed to find any trace. However, some debris found by locals and tourists in Mauritius, Tanzania and the French island of Reunion is believed to be from the missing plane. Investigators are examining more debris found in Mozambique and South Africa. Meanwhile, families of the missing victims have expressed their frustration and demanded that the search be expanded to the east coast of Africa.

Flight MH370 disappeared in March 2014 with 239 passengers and crew on board, most of them Chinese, while en route from the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The disappearance has become one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries. Australia is now leading the search for the plane, at the request of the Malaysian government.
