(Baonghean.vn) - Due to erratic weather, in recent days, leaf rollers have appeared in many localities causing damage at high density.

In Thanh Chuong,Up to now, the whole district has sown and planted 5,000 hectares as planned. Currently, the rice is in the green recovery period to tillering. However, in the early sown areas, larvae and leaf rollers are emerging and causing widespread damage in some communes such as Dong Van, Thanh Linh, Thanh Dong, Thanh Yen..., the common worm density is from 15-30 worms/m2, in high places it is 50-70 worms/m2, the worms are mainly 2-3 instar larvae.

According to statistics, the whole district has about 500 hectares of infected rice, of which about 200 hectares need to be focused on immediate prevention.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, the 4th generation of larvae will continue to cause white leaves, some areas with high density of larvae will affect the growth and development of rice plants if not prevented in time. Therefore, to minimize the damage caused by small leaf rollers, the district has directed farmers to actively prevent leaf rollers with specific pesticides such as: Virtako 40 WG, Clever 159SC, 300WG, Takumi 20WG... according to the recommended dose, the best time to spray is from June 28 to July 3, 2016.

At Nam Dan,According to statistics from the district Plant Protection Station, up to this point, the whole district has over 600 hectares of rice infected with leaf rollers, of which 72.5 hectares are heavily infected, concentrated in the communes of Nam Tan, Nam Loc, Nam Hung, Nam Thai with a common worm density of 30-25 worms/m2, in some places 100-150 worms/m2, worms are mainly in the egg stage, 1-2 instar larvae.

In Dien Chau,In the district, 1,829 hectares of summer-autumn rice are infected with the first batch of leaf rollers, of which 552 hectares have a density of 50 to 150 insects/m2, the remaining area has less than 50 insects/m2. Fields infected with high density of leaf rollers over 50 insects/m2, if not controlled in time, will lead to rice growth being delayed by 3-5 days compared to normal, especially at the tillering stage as at present.

Dien Chau Agriculture Department recommends that farmers should spray Amate and Clever pesticides in time. After spraying, nutrients must be supplemented by ensuring water at the foot of the field, adding 3 kg of urea and 3 kg of potassium per sao to help the rice grow in time, without affecting future productivity.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, the 4th generation of larvae will continue to arise and cause damage on a large scale. If not prevented and controlled in time, it will easily lead to "leaf burn". In this situation, the Plant Protection Stations of the districts have sent staff to the grassroots level to directly instruct people to spray with specific pesticides, with the determination to prevent and control in time, not allowing leaf rollers to spread widely.
