(Baonghean.vn) The match between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi is unlikely to take place on February 7 as planned due to the Wuhan pneumonia pandemic; AFC's rankings are based on the performance of the clubs in Asian cups in past seasons.

National Super Cup match expected to be postponed

"It is likely that VPF will postpone the National Super Cup due to the coronavirus epidemic. We are expected to have an official announcement on February 2," said Tran Anh Tu, General Director of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF).

Hanoi (yellow) and Ho Chi Minh City are the two most highly rated teams ahead of the 2020 season.

The National Super Cup is played between the V-League champion and the National Cup winner. However, Hanoi won both tournaments in the 2019 season, while Ho Chi Minh City was granted the right to participate in the match as the V-League runner-up. According to the original plan, the match took place at Thong Nhat Stadium on February 7. The match organizers have not yet announced a plan to postpone the National Super Cup match.

"The match organizers have discussed with Hanoi FC about the possibility of postponing the National Super Cup. However, since there has been no official announcement, we still have to prepare to travel as usual. The team's flight tickets and hotel in Ho Chi Minh City have been finalized," said Hanoi FC CEO Nguyen Quoc Tuan.

HAGL leaders speak up about Muangthong asking to borrow Tuan Anh

Before the rumor that Muangthong United club wanted to borrow midfielder Nguyen Tuan Anh for the 2020 season, HAGL leaders denied the information.

"That will never happen. Tuan Anh will still play for HAGL next season. We also don't know anything about Muangthong United's leadership wanting to borrow Tuan Anh," Technical Director Nguyen Tan Anh shared.

Previously, Thai fans were excited about the news that the "rich guy" Thailand expressed his intention to borrow a midfielder from the Vietnamese national team in the 2020 season. Muangthong United finished in 5th place last season and is urgently looking for more midfielders to strengthen their squad for this year's season.

Besides Tuan Anh, Nguyen Van Quyet is also mentioned in rumors on some Thai football forums. Many Muangthong fans are also eager to see Van Quyet and Quang Hai play in the Thai League.

Hanoi Club ranked 6th in Southeast Asia
With an average score of 27.08, Hanoi FC ranked behind Ceres Negros (Philippines), Buriram United, Muangthong United (all from Thailand), Johor Darul Ta'zim (Malaysia) and Home United (Singapore). On the AFC's overall rankings, Hanoi ranked 52nd out of 169 teams.

Although only ranked 6th in Southeast Asia, Hanoi is still ranked above many other big Asian clubs such as Deagu FC (Korea), Yokohama F.Marinos, Vissel Kobe, FC Tokyo (all from Japan) or Brisbane Roar, Western Sydney Wanderers (two clubs from Australia).

The capital team achieved this achievement thanks to reaching the inter-regional final of the AFC Cup 2019. Other representatives of Vietnam are Binh Duong ranked 87th, Thanh Hoa Club ranked 94th, Song Lam Nghe An ranked 103rd in the above list.
The AFC rankings are based on the performance of clubs in previous seasons of Asian Cup competitions. After the final qualifying round of the AFC Champions League, Philippine club Ceres Negros is the highest ranked team in Southeast Asia with 40.75 points. Ceres Negros is ranked 25th in the overall AFC rankings.

The AFC Club Rankings are one of the bases for determining the qualification for the AFC Champions League or AFC Cup. The total points of the clubs in a country will affect the qualification for the top continental club tournaments.

Vietnam currently has only 1 place in the second qualifying round of the AFC Champions League, 1 place in the group stage of the AFC Cup. Meanwhile, both Thailand and Malaysia have 1 place directly in the group stage of the AFC Champions League, 1 to 2 places in the qualifying round of Asia's number 1 club tournament.
