The house, with its long veranda and castle-like exterior, sits on a spacious lot as seen from the naval observatory, near the Vice President’s official residence in the affluent Kalorama neighborhood near the embassy. Renovated in 2011, the house has eight bathrooms, three fireplaces, and covers 7,600 square feet.2. Information from real estate agents also said that up to 10 cars can be parked on the premises of the building.

Peg Mancuso, president of the Greater Washington Association of Realtors, called the area “clearly one of the best in the Washington metropolitan area.” She said that if the rumors are true, “Mr. Obama could not have picked a better neighborhood for his family.”
“It seemed like the perfect choice,” Manusco said.
The owner of the mansion, former White House press secretary to President Bill Clinton Joe Lockhart, now lives in New York. According to Politico, the White House has declined to comment on the possibility of the Obama family renting the property.
A person familiar with the Obamas' plans confirmed they have begun looking for a home and are currently looking at rental properties in several Washington areas, including Kalorama. However, the person was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and requested anonymity.
It is unclear whether the Obamas have decided on the Kalorama home and formally leased it or are still considering other options. Obama aides and friends are reluctant to discuss his plans amid tight security arrangements by the Secret Service to ensure the family will be fully protected while living at the home.
Obama has publicly stated that his family plans to stay in Washington after leaving the White House until his youngest daughter, 14-year-old Sasha Obama, graduates from high school. Sasha's older sister, Malia Obama, graduates from high school this year and plans to attend Harvard University after taking a year off.
“Moving your kids in the middle of high school is going to make their lives more difficult,” Obama said in Milwaukee earlier this year.

Built in the 1920s, the mansion last sold in 2013 for $5.3 million – down from its listing price of $6 million. It was listed for nearly $8 million in 2012 but has since dropped out.
For years, Mr. Obama has complained publicly about the lack of privacy living in the White House, and has said he is looking forward to the day when he can return to the seclusion and freedom of movement he enjoyed before he became president. While his decision to remain in Washington temporarily may delay that plan, Obama is expected to spend a significant amount of time in the coming years in Chicago, where his family owns a home and will build his presidential library, in addition to New York and Hawaii, where Mr. Obama was born.
