Ky Son residents breathe a sigh of relief when receiving new houses before storm season, no more 'not daring to sleep at night for fear of flash floods'

Currently, in Ky Son district, there are many households living in areas that are frequently affected by flash floods and landslides during the rainy and stormy season. In particular, resettlement area No. 2 located behind Ky Son High School in Son Ha village, Ta Ca commune, was officially completed in early 2025 and is becoming a safe destination for many households.

After many years of anticipation, this resettlement area was built on an area of ​​3.9 hectares, with 56 plots of land, each plot averaging 222 square meters wide.²Total construction area reaches more than 14,000m²The project started in November 2023, with a total investment of 31.5 billion VND, of which the central budget supported 30 billion VND. The completion of infrastructure, roads, electricity and water in this area has created favorable conditions for households to quickly rebuild their houses and stabilize their lives.

The family of Mr. Lo Van Tien, residing in Hoa Son village, Ta Ca commune, was one of the first households to move to the new resettlement area. He said: "Right after the resettlement area was completed, my family immediately moved here. During the process of rebuilding the new house, we received support from the local government and villagers. We feel much more secure, because every previous rainy and stormy season, the whole family always lived in anxiety, not daring to sleep at night for fear of flood waters coming back."

According to Mr. Vi Van Man - Chairman of Ta Ca Commune People's Committee, propaganda and mobilization work to evacuate people from dangerous areas has been carried out since the beginning of the year. The commune government committed to not allowing any people to continue staying in high-risk areas.

To date, 55/56 households have registered to move to resettlement area No. 2, of which 18 have completed building houses and settled down. Each household has received 40 million VND from the State as prescribed to serve the relocation and house building work. The local government is continuing to mobilize the remaining households to quickly move before the storm approaches.

Not only resettlement area No. 2 in Ta Ca commune, in the whole Ky Son district, there are currently a total of 6 planned resettlement areas, serving the relocation of people out of dangerous areas.

According to Mr. Nguyen Vi Dan - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ky Son district, up to now, 192/259 households subject to relocation have been moved to new residences. Specifically, the Vang Phao resettlement area (Muong Tip commune) has completed receiving 70/70 households; the Co My resettlement area (Muong Tip commune) has received 73/82 households; the Xop Tu resettlement area (My Ly commune) has received 31/51 households; and the Bao Nam commune resettlement area is currently being adjusted due to landslides.

“Evacuating people from areas at risk of flash floods is an urgent task, not only to protect property but more importantly, people’s lives. We hope that people will be aware of the danger and cooperate with the authorities so that the evacuation process can take place smoothly and effectively,” Mr. Dan emphasized.

The construction of resettlement areas in Ky Son district is one of the fundamental and sustainable solutions that Ky Son district is implementing to cope with increasingly extreme and unusual natural disasters. However, the success of this work depends largely on the synchronous participation from the government to each household.

In fact, when people are clearly aware of the dangers of continuing to live in flood-prone areas and receive practical support from the State, the relocation process goes more smoothly. Financial support, organizing forces to support transportation, building houses and ensuring essential services in the new place of residence are important factors that help people feel secure and stabilize their lives.
