Heavy rain in many districts of Western Nghe An, localized flooding in some areas

On the evening of May 23, heavy rain occurred in many districts in Western Nghe An, accompanied by water from upstream, causing some localized flooding, traffic jams, and affecting crops and rice during harvest.

* On the morning of May 24, Mr. Luong Van Tuan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Luc Da commune, Con Cuong district, said that on the night of May 23, heavy rain lasting from late afternoon until almost the end of the night flooded some areas in the commune.

In Moi village, until this morning, the water level was still too high, people still could not travel across this road with overflow bridge.

Heavy rain and rising water levels have flooded some rice fields and crops of Luc Da commune. Currently, the government is counting and surveying the extent of the impact.

* Not only Con Cuong district, in the border district of Ky Son, heavy rain also occurred for more than 2 hours on the night of May 23. Local people said that heavy rain combined with water from upstream caused the water in streams and creeks to rise quite quickly.

In Muong Xen town, local people said that at around 9pm on May 23, water flooded Huoi Giang stream, the section across the spillway bridge near the district’s Political Center. Some sections of National Highway 7 through the town were also flooded, overflowing onto the road. By this morning (May 24), the water had receded.

* Also last night, heavy rain fell in many communes in Quy Chau district such as Chau Nga and Chau Phong. The rain lasted for about 2 hours. Local people in Chau Nga commune said that the heavy rain did not flood the water, but the amount of water flowing from upstream was quite large, making the rivers and streams muddy and higher than usual.

In Chau Phong commune (Quy Chau), people said that on the night of May 23, there was heavy rain that lasted all night. By this morning, the rain had decreased.

In the face of heavy rain in some districts in the West, during the night, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Rescue also issued a telegram to localities, departments, branches and relevant units to focus on closely monitoring and supervising the natural disaster situation to promptly take response measures.

Also on the night of May 23, heavy rains and upstream water caused the water levels in hydroelectric dams to rise. Ban Ang Hydroelectric Power Plant announced that night that it would release floodwaters.
