The South Korean Navy used the powerful Chungmugong-class destroyer Yi Sun-sin to train Vietnamese cadets.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer, also known as KDX-II, classified as DDH, is the second most powerful destroyer class of the Republic of Korea Navy, second only to the Sejong the Great-class Aegis destroyers.

The ship has basic technical parameters including a full load displacement of 5,520 tons; length of 150 m; width of 17.4 m; draft of 9.5 m.

The heart of this class of warship is the CODOG engine (a combination of diesel engine and gas turbine engine), giving a maximum speed of 30 knots (56 km/h); a range of 5,500 nautical miles (10,200 km); and a crew of 200.

The electronic systems of the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin class are sophisticated and massive, including radar, including American, European and Korean-licensed equipment.

Notable among them are the Raytheon AN/SPS-49(V)5 2D long-range reconnaissance radar, the MW08 3D reconnaissance radar and the Thales Nederland STIR240 fire control radar; the SLQ-200(V)K SONATA electronic warfare system and the KDCOM-II combat management system.

The ship has a total of 64 vertical launch tubes, with a structure of 32 Mk 41 tubes carrying SM-2 Block IIIA air defense missiles with a range of 167 km, a flight ceiling of 24.5 km, and a speed of Mach 3.5; accompanied by 32 K-VLS tubes for 8 Hong Sang Eo anti-submarine missiles (Korean version of K-ASROC) and Hyunmoo III land-attack cruise missiles.

The ship also has 8 SSM-700K Haeseong anti-ship cruise missile launchers with a range of 150 km and subsonic speed, 1 CIWS Goalkeeper system, 1 RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile with 21 rounds. In front of the bow is a 127 mm Mk 45 Mod gun.

The ship's anti-submarine capabilities rely on six Mk 46 324 mm lightweight torpedoes and two Super Lynx helicopters.

The Republic of Korea Navy currently operates a total of six Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyers, the first of which entered service in 2003 while the last was commissioned in 2008.

Your side training Vietnamese sailors on this state-of-the-art warship is considered a great favor.

Hopefully in the future, there will be more practical cooperation programs between the two countries for the benefit of both sides. It is not even impossible that Vietnam will order warships made in Korea, especially when it has a clear understanding of their features and functions.
