A Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bomber has crashed in Yeysk, Russia's Krasnodar region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Ambulances and rescue workers could not get close to the crash site in Yeysk due to heavy smoke and fire.

"On October 17, 2022, while gaining altitude during a training flight from the military airfield of the Southern Military District, a Su-34 aircraft crashed in the city of Yeysk," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Defense added that according to the report of the pilot who parachuted out, the cause of the plane crash was due to one of the engines catching fire during takeoff.

"At the scene of the Su-34 crash in the yard of one of the residential areas, the aircraft's fuel caught fire," the statement said.

The fire area in the residential building in Yeysk is 2,000 square meters, according to the emergency services. According to preliminary data, 15 apartments were damaged after the plane crashed into the house in Yeysk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered all necessary assistance to the victims of the Yeysk military plane crash. He authorized the Krasnodar Governor, the Minister of Emergency Situations and the Minister of Health to go to the scene to provide assistance, according to the Kremlin press service.
