New National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue takes oath of office

Speaking after the oath-taking ceremony this morning (March 31), Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue thanked the National Assembly for trusting him to be elected as Chairman of the National Assembly. This is an extremely great honor, but also a very heavy responsibility for him personally.

Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue said that this session is the last session of the 14th National Assembly, taking place in the context that the entire Party, people and army are actively implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and preparing for the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.

Therefore, it is necessary to simultaneously carry out two tasks: ensuring continuity in the activities of the National Assembly and successfully organizing elections nationwide.

“As Chairman of the National Assembly, I vow to do my best, together with the National Assembly Standing Committee, the agencies of the National Assembly, the agencies under the National Assembly Standing Committee, the delegations of National Assembly deputies and the National Assembly deputies, to inherit and promote the good traditions and great achievements of the National Assembly through the periods, continue to innovate methods, improve the quality and effectiveness of the National Assembly's operations for the ultimate goal of serving the interests of the nation, the people, and for the happiness of the people,” said Mr. Hue.

The new Chairman of the National Assembly said that as Chairman of the National Election Council, he and the members of the Council will seriously perform their functions, tasks and powers according to the law; successfully organize the election to elect exemplary and worthy representatives, representing the will, aspirations and mastery of the people in the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels in the coming term.

According to him, the 14th National Assembly term is about to end with many great results in all three aspects: Legislation, supreme supervision and deciding on important issues of the country, leaving many good impressions and sentiments in the hearts of people and voters nationwide.

“With that result, I would like to respectfully thank the former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the previous Chairwomen for their important contributions to the activities of the National Assembly and raising the position of the Vietnamese National Assembly in the international arena,” Mr. Hue expressed.

The National Assembly Chairwoman wished Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan good health and continued attention and comments to help the National Assembly make more important contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Immediately after the speech, new National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue took the chair to preside over the meeting.

Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue was born in 1957 in Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province. He holds the academic title and degree of Professor, Doctor of Economics, and is a postgraduate student at the University of Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia.

He was a lecturer, then Deputy Dean, Head of Accounting Department, then Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Finance and Accounting.

After leaving the teaching environment, he was appointed Deputy Auditor General, then State Auditor General.

At the first session of the 13th National Assembly, he was approved by the National Assembly as Minister of Finance. Since December 2012, he was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission.

Since April 2016, he has been Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Southwest Steering Committee (June 2016).

In February 2020, the Politburo assigned him to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

At the 17th Congress of the Hanoi Party Committee in October 2020, he was re-elected as Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for the 17th term, 2020-2025.

He was a member of the Politburo of the 12th and 13th terms; a member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th terms; and a delegate of the National Assembly of the 13th and 14th terms.
