(Baonghean) - In recent years, although the traffic infrastructure in Tan Ky district has continued to develop, creating positive changes, it has not been invested in synchronously and completely, leading to the locality not being able to exploit its available potential.

Traffic "barriers"

Tan Ky is a locality that Nghe An province has identified as becoming one of the better districts in the Western region of the province in the near future. The reason why the province recognizes it like that is because Tan Ky district has a lot of potential for developing high-tech agriculture; livestock farming associated with processing; mineral exploitation and processing; and garment industry.

However, looking at reality, the biggest “barrier” toTan Ky districtis a transport system that has not been developed synchronously.

Provincial Road 534D connecting Cua to the communes of Giai Xuan, Tan Hop, Dong Van, Tien Ky, Phu Son is over 30 km long, a vital route to create conditions for these localities to develop their economy in the fields of agriculture and tourism. However, this route has been seriously degraded for a long time, many sections have not been invested in upgrading, causing the road surface to be bumpy, narrow... causing difficulties for vehicles participating in traffic.

Local people said that during the sugarcane harvest season, the number of vehicles transporting sugarcane from the raw material area to the factory is large, making the road surface even more difficult to travel, especially on rainy days. Mr. Truong Cong Thach - Chairman of Tien Ky Commune People's Committee worried: "The locality has long identified sugarcane and acacia as two key crops for economic development, but the main roads in the commune have not been invested in upgrading, so transportation is facing many disadvantages, leading to people losing out when selling products, often being forced to lower prices"...

In addition, in Tan Ky district, there are still some key roads that have not been invested in synchronously, causing difficulties for the inner communes in traveling and developing the economy sustainably. In particular, some rigid bridges, although invested in and built many years ago, have not yet been completed and put into use.

Khe Than BridgeThe road on the border of Tien Ky commune, although invested by the State since 2015, has not yet been completed and put into use, causing difficulties for people, especially during the rainy season when they are often isolated for many days in a row.

There are currently 4 national highways and 2 provincial roads running through the district; along with 11 district-managed roads. With such a traffic network, Tan Ky district has been connected with neighboring localities such as Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Anh Son, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan... However, many of these roads have not been upgraded, making it difficult for people to travel to serve socio-economic development. Typically, Provincial Road 534D has a narrow, degraded and long-term damaged road surface that has not been repaired, there are still 25 km of dirt road... Route 534B, running from Trai Lat (Tan Ky) to Cay Chanh (Anh Son), is 25 km long, many sections are severely damaged, making it difficult for vehicles to travel. These are the main roads of Tan Ky district, playing a major role in transporting raw materials such as sugarcane, acacia wood, corn, and cassava from people to the factory.

Untapped potential

Tan Ky district is a locality with great potential for economic development in the fields of mining, agricultural production, forestry and tourism. In the agricultural sector, there is rice, corn, cassava production; fruit trees; the main industrial crops are sugarcane, followed by pepper, rubber, mulberry. In the livestock sector, there are goats, buffalo, cows, pigs, chickens... Forestry, notably with about 26,000 hectares of acacia forest, each year exploiting an estimated tens of thousands of tons of acacia wood.

In particular, in Tan Ky district there are many types of minerals serving the construction sector, such as: limestone, clay, granite, white stone, sand, gravel...

Tan Ky district's limestone is mainly distributed in the Len Roi area, with reserves of about 2.8 billion tons, of good quality for cement production. Along with that is the clay mine in Len Roi with reserves of about 760 million tons. This type of clay is supplied to cement factories as an additive. In addition, there are some minerals serving the construction sector, such as sand, gravel along the Con River, streams, granite, white stone, etc. in the communes of Dong Van, Tien Ky, Tan Hop, Tan Phu and some other localities.

Tan Ky is also a locality with great potential for tourism development with beautiful natural landscapes; a land with a long history; a homeland of many homelands, so it has both indigenous cultural colors and cultural diversity of many regions. With a perspective to develop tourism, Tan Ky district can completely diversify types of tourism services and products, including: Cultural and historical tourism associated with spirituality and beliefs; Ecotourism (scenic landscapes), community tourism of craft villages combined with agricultural, industrial and handicraft products.

In recent years, although many traffic works invested by the State for upgrading and renovation have been completed and put into operation, Tan Ky district has proactively invested in connecting with the local traffic system. However, the achievements have not yet met the development requirements and are not commensurate with the existing potential of the locality. To exploit that potential, the traffic system in the district must be upgraded synchronously.

Mr. Phan Van Giap - Chairman of Tan Ky District People's Committee

During a working trip to Tan Ky district in 2020, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung said that although the local economy continued to develop, it was not commensurate with its potential and advantages, and was not really sustainable; infrastructure, especially transportation and electricity, did not meet development requirements...

It can be said that traffic is an important artery for local economic development, especially for Tan Ky district, which is a place with great potential in minerals, agriculture, forestry, etc. Therefore, in response to the urgent needs of the people and the locality, all levels and sectors need to pay attention to upgrading the arterial roads soon so that Tan Ky district has the opportunity to make a breakthrough in the field of internal economic development.

Of which, Tan Ky district has 2 projects: Traffic road project connecting from National Highway 7C (Do Luong) to Ho Chi Minh Road (Tan Ky). Project to renovate and upgrade the road connecting from Provincial Road 535B in Tan An Commune (Tan Ky) with Provincial Road 534D in Phu Son Commune (Tan Ky) to Ho Chi Minh Road and to Cay Chanh (Anh Son).
