Washington decided to take this step after media reports said Russia planned to test a hypersonic missile. According to Washington Free Beacon, in April, Moscow tested the U-71 on a UR-100N ballistic missile.
The US plans to spend $23 million on developing laser weapons designed to protect the country from hypersonic missiles, according to James Sayring, head of the Missile Defense Agency. However, as Mr. Sayring said, the new weapon will be tested no earlier than 2021.
