Tragedy at Halloween festival in Seoul, South Korea: At least 149 people died
The death toll could rise as rescue operations are still underway.
According to Yonhap news, as of 6:00 a.m. on October 30 (local time), at least 149 people had died in a stampede when a huge crowd jostled each other in a central area of the South Korean capital Seoul to celebrate Halloween.

Authorities said they received a series of calls from people at the event in the Itaewon district, complaining of choking. Footage posted on social media showed some people being assisted by rescue units and residents at the scene.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol chaired an emergency meeting and ordered emergency medical teams to be dispatched to the scene to minimize casualties. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon also immediately cut short his visit to four European countries to return home to deal with the incident. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident./.
