The world's fastest elevator runs 111 floors in half a minute
An elevator in Guangzhou, China, set a speed record during a test session with the ability to travel 1,260 m/min.
Hitachi introduced elevators with speeds over 1,200 m/min in 2015
Japanese technology company Hitachi developed and installed the world's fastest elevator at the 111-story, 530-meter-high CTF Finance Center in Guangzhou, China, New Atlas reported on June 2.
The elevator's record speed of 75 km/h, or 1,260 meters/minute, was recorded by China's National Elevator Quality Supervision and Inspection Administration during a test run. At this speed, the elevator can run the full height of the building in less than half a minute.
During testing in May, the elevator reached a maximum speed of 72 km/h, or 1,200 m/min. Currently, the elevator is in the final stages of adjustment. The speed when going down is 36 km/h, or 600 m/min.

According to Hitachi, high-speed elevators are still safe thanks to equipment such as active guide rollers in 4 positions above, below, left, right of the elevator car. These rollers absorb vibrations when the elevator moves at high speed.
The elevator also uses ear pressure adjustment technology to reduce earaches by reducing changes in air pressure inside the elevator car. The elevator's braking system is made of heat-resistant materials.
When in operation, the elevators at the CTF Finance Center building will only run at a permitted speed of 72 km/h.
