Drunk man climbs fence into Buckingham Palace

(Baonghean.vn) – A 22-year-old man was arrested on August 9 after climbing over the security fence of Buckingham Palace in London, England.

Police said the intruder, who lives in the south London town of Croydon, was suspected of trying to gain entry to Buckingham Palace.

The young man was spotted by security personnel on surveillance cameras. Police confirmed he had been drinking and had not yet approached the Palace.

The young man was unarmed, so police were able to arrest him without using a stun gun. He is currently being held at a London police station.

At the time of the incident, Queen Elizabeth was not present in the palace as she was on summer vacation at Balmoral.

The intrusion comes as Britain is on high alert following successive terrorist attacks in Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium.

The terror threat level in the UK is considered “severe”, meaning an attack could happen at any time. However, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the incident was not terrorism-related.

Previously, a 41-year-old man was also arrested when trying to cross the security fence on the evening of May 18.
