Young volunteers get priority in university admission
After completing the volunteer program according to the program, project, or plan, young people will be given priority in admission as well as when recruited to work in state agencies, public service units, or economic organizations.
That is one of the contents in Decision 57/2015/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on Policy on youth volunteer activities, effective from January 1, 2016 and discussed by Mr. Vu Dang Minh, Director of the Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the youth dialogue program with the theme "Policy on volunteer activities - Voice of insiders" recently held in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to this Decision, youth volunteer activities include two types: Volunteer activities to implement programs, projects, and plans for socio-economic development and national defense for 24 months or more approved by competent authorities; Volunteer activities for the community and society organized by the Youth Union or other youth organizations.

For young people who participate in volunteer activities to implement programs, projects, and schemes, after completion, there will be a number of policies such as being given priority in consideration for settlement and resettlement policies in new economic zones; being given priority in admission to college, university, and postgraduate training systems.
The competent authority where the volunteer activities take place will consider, plan, train and arrange for use if they complete their tasks well and have the need to continue working in the locality. If they return to the place of departure, the local Party Committee and government will create conditions for them to stabilize their lives.
The Decision also clearly states that if a young volunteer participating in the above volunteer activities has a brave act and dies or is injured, falling into one of the cases prescribed by law on preferential treatment for people with revolutionary contributions, the People's Committee of the commune where the volunteer activity takes place will request the competent authority to consider and recognize them as martyrs or decide to enjoy policies like war invalids according to the law on preferential treatment for people with revolutionary contributions.
Most of the delegates agreed with Decision 57 on policies for volunteer activities. However, many people thought that the content "Paying allowances for youth in volunteer activities (if any)" should be removed from the responsibility section of the agency organizing the volunteer activities.
Mr. Giang Ngoc Phuong, former Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Student Association, expressed his opinion that there should be no regulations on paying compensation for volunteer activities because volunteering is completely non-profit and participants are completely voluntary./.
