Commodity market for Tet Quy Mao: Abundant supply, stable prices

(Baonghean.vn) - In general, on the occasion of Tet Quy Mao 2023, prices of essential goods did not increase much compared to Tet Nguyen Dan 2022; some items remained at the same price to serve people's shopping needs, there was no phenomenon of price fever or sudden price increase.

According to the reporter's records, on the 6th day of Tet, most distribution systems and traditional markets returned to normal operations. Prices of food items at the market increased compared to normal days, but on the first day of the year, shoppers were willing to pay higher prices.

At supermarkets, they were open at noon on the second day of Tet. Compared to the market price level, the prices of vegetables, tubers, and food in supermarkets did not fluctuate much.

In general, the market for goods, especially essential goods at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao 2023, is bustling but without much fluctuation. Supermarkets, shopping malls, businesses trading and distributing goods in the province ensure the source of goods for the Lunar New Year 2023, proactively research the market, develop production plans, reserve goods reasonably and promptly meet market demand during peak times, and avoid shortages, price hikes or backlogs of goods after Tet. State management agencies in the trade sector have implemented many solutions to maintain market stability, ensuring supply-demand balance at the end of the year and Lunar New Year.

Goods for Tet this year are prepared in abundance by supermarkets, shopping malls, businesses, and goods distributors in the province, with rich and diverse designs. Prices of most items are relatively stable. Some items have high demand in the days before Tet such as fruits, ornamental plants for Tet... the selling price increases by about 10-30% compared to normal days.

For the food group, the total average rice consumption demand of the whole province is about 16,000 tons/month (average personal consumption is 5 kg/person/month), during Tet month the demand is about 18,000 tons/month.

Rice prices are stable due to abundant supply. However, before and after Tet, rice prices increased slightly, focusing on specialty rice and delicious sticky rice. The increase is insignificant due to the abundant supply of locally produced rice and rice from the South.

Specifically: The retail price of delicious rice produced in the province ranges from 10,500 - 12,000 VND/kg (in districts and towns) and in Vinh City the price is about 11,000 - 15,000 VND/kg; jasmine milk rice (South) costs from 14,800 - 15,000 VND/kg, Hanoi sticky rice is 24,300 - 28,000 VND/kg, Thai sticky rice is 28,200 - 30,000 VND/kg...

Agricultural products remain stable compared to the same period last year, specifically: Black sesame grade 1: 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg,... Particularly for peeled peanuts grade 1 and green beans (peeled) grade 1, there is an increase of about 5,000 VND/kg: 50,000-60,000 VND/kg...

Group of livestock, poultry and aquatic and seafood meat:

The total average fresh food demand of the whole province is about 13,000 tons/month (equivalent to 4kg/person/month), the demand for Tet is about 16,000 tons/month.

Livestock and poultry meat: The retail price of live chicken is stable compared to the same period last year, in the districts and towns of the delta, the price is about 100,000-120,000 VND/kg; in the markets in Vinh city, the price ranges from 130,000-150,000 VND/kg; beef tenderloin price ranges from 240,000-270,000 VND/kg, beef shank 250,000-280,000 VND/kg; pork butt retail price has decreased compared to the same period last year and increased slightly by about 10,000-20,000 VND/kg compared to the previous month, the retail price ranges from 120,000-150,000 VND/kg.

Seafood supply is abundant, retail prices remain stable compared to the same period last year (depending on the type), specifically: Mackerel type 1 has the highest retail price increase, up 50,000 VND/kg, average selling price ranges from 270,000-310,000 VND/kg; Large grass carp type 5-7 kg/fish is priced from 80,000-100,000 VND/kg, medium river shrimp is priced from 170,000-200,000 VND/kg...

Grouprgreen beans, tubers, fruits:

The demand is about 32,000 tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of all kinds/month (equivalent to about 10 kg/month). The main supply is within the province, and it is expected that local output can meet about: 39,947 tons/month.

The supply of vegetables, tubers and fruits in localities is abundant, with a slight increase of 10-20% compared to last year, specifically: Mustard greens 10,000-15,000 VND/kg; Malabar spinach shoots 8,000-12,000 VND/bunch, potato shoots 8,000-10,000 VND/bunch, green squash 15,000-20,000 VND/kg,...

Consumer technology products group:

Total demand (sugar, milk, fish sauce, seasoning powder, MSG, instant noodles; dry food; cooking oil; iodized salt) is estimated at about 9,000 tons/month.

As Tet approaches, due to increased demand, the prices of beers with the words Happy New Year have increased by 5,000-20,000 VND/carton (depending on the brand). Specifically: Hanoi canned beer costs 245,000-260,000 VND/carton, Halida, Huda Gold 270,000-280,000 VND/carton, regular Huda 220,000-240,000 VND/carton, Heiniken 425,000-435,000 VND/carton.

- Sugar: Retail prices on the market are stable compared to the same period last year, ranging from 18,000-22,000 VND/kg.

- Cooking oil and items such as seasoning powder, salt, instant noodles increased slightly compared to the same period last year, specifically: Retail price of Tuong An soybean oil: 69,700 VND/liter; Simply soybean oil 65,500 VND/liter; Neptune oil 65,000 VND/liter; Aji-ngon seasoning powder 900g: 81,000 VND/pack; Knorr bone marrow seasoning powder 900g: 78,000 VND/pack, instant noodles range from: 95,000 VND - 110,000 VND/box.

In addition to essential goods serving people's consumption needs, during the Lunar New Year, consumer demand also focuses on traditional goods such as cakes, candies, soft drinks, etc.

About 400 tons of cakes, jams, and candies of all kinds are consumed during Tet. The main sources of goods are from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Some types of cakes, jams, candies, wine, and high-end beer are imported by businesses, accounting for about 10-15% of the total quantity of goods consumed during Tet. Supermarkets and specialized stores on the streets are where these items are sold.

This year, the types of potted plants are very diverse and abundant with many different prices, increasing from 10-15% compared to the same period last year. Fruits increased from 20-30% compared to the same period last year, specifically, bananas for incense are from 150,000 - 300,000 VND/bunch, grapefruit from 40,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

CThere is a plan to ensure the supply of gasoline and oil.:

The Department of Industry and Trade has directed local gasoline and oil distribution enterprises, in addition to proactively developing plans to reserve gasoline and oil for Tet, to promptly guide traders and retail stores in the distribution system to properly implement current regulations on gasoline and oil trading, ensuring the supply of gasoline and oil to serve people during Tet.

According to reports from key traders and gasoline and oil distributors in the province, under pressure from the shortage of goods due to limited domestic supply and increased travel demand at the end of the year and Lunar New Year, traders have proactively planned to prepare goods for the end of the year and Lunar New Year 2023, specifically: In the first quarter of 2023, traders plan to reserve about211,940 m3, in which, the main traders include Nghe An Petroleum Company with about 105,500 m3, Thien Minh Duc Group Joint Stock Company about 60,100m3, Petrolimex Nghe Tinh Transport and Service Joint Stock Company about 31,000 m3 and distributors such as Do Luong General Trading Joint Stock Company 4,200 m3, Phuc An Maritime Joint Stock Company about 2,250m3, Luu Nga Company Limited 2,400 m3, Tien Nhat Trading and Service Joint Stock Company about 1,490 m3.

From December 29 to the 4th day of Tet, gas stations operate 24/7 to ensure service for people's travel needs.

Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said that before Tet, the Department coordinated with cooperatives, market management and business units and production and business enterprises in the area to promptly monitor and update the market situation and price fluctuations. Thanks to that, it has grasped the supply of some essential goods and services that directly serve the needs of local people, especially food groups, fresh food, services, ... and other essential goods related to production to promptly advise on plans to balance supply and demand, stabilize the market when necessary.

At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade also coordinates with relevant functional forces to strengthen market inspection and control before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2023, especially for weapons, dangerous explosives, goods violating the environment or goods with high demand during Tet such as cigarettes, alcohol, beer, poultry, pork, food; strictly control the quality of imported fresh food; especially in key areas, border areas.
