According to the case file, T (16 years old, from Binh Phuoc) was a waitress at a karaoke bar on Nguyen Thai Son Street (Ward 3, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City). During his time working at the karaoke bar, T owed Tho and Vuong 19 million VND. Tho and Vuong repeatedly asked for the debt but T kept delaying it. Angry at not being able to collect the debt, Tho and Vuong planned to kidnap T to force T's family to pay the debt.
On the evening of August 11, Tho and Vuong went to a karaoke bar, forced T onto a motorbike and took him to many places in Ho Chi Minh City to force T to pay his debt. On the morning of August 13, the two subjects took T back to house number 53 Pham Van Dong Street, Ward 3, Go Vap District, and took turns beating and threatening T. The two subjects asked T to call his family to bring money to pay his debt before allowing T to leave.
Receiving T's phone call, T's family agreed to pay Tho and Vuong 15 million VND in advance. Tho and Vuong agreed but threatened to kill T if T's family did not do as agreed. Faced with the above situation, T's family reported it to the Go Vap District Police.
At around 2:00 p.m. on August 14, Tho and Vuong drove T to Gia Dinh Park (Phu Nhuan District) to get money and hand over the person, but were stopped by Go Vap District Police. Tho was arrested, while Vuong quickly escaped.
