Prime Minister requests not to export all types of sand
The Government Office has just issued a notice conveying the opinion of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requesting the Ministry of Construction to continue implementing the policy of not exporting all types of sand abroad.

In addition, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to study the impact on the domestic construction materials market when Cambodia permanently stops exporting sand, and to have solutions to guide localities to proactively ensure the stability of the construction materials market in the area.
Previously, at the end of August 2017, in a document reporting to the Prime Minister on issues related to the management and export of sand domestically and in Cambodia, the Ministry of Construction affirmed that Vietnam had banned the export of construction sand since 2009.
Particularly, the export of saline sand collected from dredging projects at river mouths and seaports in recent times has been carried out according to Notice No. 407 dated December 17, 2012 of the Government Office.
However, according to the Ministry of Construction, after the Government Office issued a document on June 22, 2017 announcing the conclusion of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Ministry of Construction "seriously" stopped guiding the export of saline sand collected from dredging and clearing projects at river mouths and seaports.
Regarding the sand management situation in Cambodia, the Ministry of Construction said that due to concerns about environmental issues such as riverbank erosion in sand mining, since 2014 Cambodia has banned the export of construction sand and since November 2016, banned the export of sea sand to Singapore.
