Confiscation of illegally logged timber in Ky Son
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 4, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Head of the Inspection and Legal Department (Provincial Forest Protection Department) said that the Ky Son District Forest Protection Department had confiscated 4,566m3Wood was gathered along the road in Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son) and brought to the commune People's Committee to wait for processing.
Previously, Nghe An Electronic Newspaper on February 14 reported that while working in the area of Buoc Mu village (Na Ngoi - Ky Son), Nghe An Newspaper reporters discovered several "strange" piles of wood on the road to Phu Xai Lai Leng mountain. According to local people, these are piles of rare sa mu wood exploited right in the forest along the road. Notably, these two piles of wood were newly sawn, the saw marks were still fresh. Local people said that this wood gathering point had appeared for a few days now, no one had talked about the owner of the pile of wood.

After receiving information from Nghe An Newspaper, Ky Son District People's Committee issued Decision No. 49/QD-UBND dated February 16 to establish a working group to inspect and verify the information reported in the newspaper.
The delegation discovered at km 8 of Buoc Mu - L10 road, Na Ngoi commune, a wood gathering point on the roadside, consistent with the image posted on Nghe An electronic newspaper.
All the wood has been cut and shaped to house size. Total 136 panels, volume 4.566m3, including: 87 house-shaped planks, 3 house-shaped planks, 4 house-shaped beams, 35 house-shaped beams, 7 wooden slabs according to the size of the coffin planks.
Checking the surrounding forest area, the team discovered two long-felled tree stumps in Lot 2, Section 8, Sub-area 490, Na Ngoi Commune. The owner is the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board, in the area contracted for protection and cultivation under the 30a program. All of the sawed and shaped wood has the same species as these two tree stumps. The team did not discover any new exploitation and did not see any additional illegal wood gathering points.

Through inspection, the team discovered that this amount of wood was declared by two households, Xong Ba Lau (born in 1994) and Xong Cha Xenh (born in 1972), both residing in Buoc Mu village, Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son), as being wood they had cut from tree stumps and some branches that had been cut down a long time ago to build houses and coffins.
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Head of the Inspection and Legal Department (Provincial Forest Protection Department) said: The timber has been confiscated and taken to the People's Committee of Na Ngoi commune for temporary detention according to regulations. The authorities are continuing to investigate and clarify the matter.
