Coming to Quynh Lap commune, Hoang Mai town these days, it is not difficult to see the image of fishing boats full of anchovies after each trip at sea. According to statistics, the whole Quynh Lap commune has 120 boats over 15 meters long specializing in fishing anchovies in distant waters. On average, each year, the anchovy output reaches 30,000-35,000 tons, the highest in the province. Photo: PV

In addition to fresh imports for traders, most of the anchovy output is steamed, dried to make raw materials for fish sauce or marinated with spices, dried to make dried fish, and ground to make fish powder. This is also the peak season for drying anchovies in Hoang Mai town with hundreds of workers participating. Photo: PV

Even when the sun is gone, people use rakes and brooms to sweep and collect the fish, making it easy for dust and dirt to stick to the fish. Photo: PV

Drying fish directly on the road, without any lining underneath, every time a vehicle passes by, it carries away sand, dirt, and dust, not to mention flies clinging to it, along with a very high risk of traffic safety. Photo: PV

During the processing and sorting process, some people even put on shoes and stepped directly on the fish. Quynh Lap Commune authorities said they will conduct inspections and remind households to ensure food hygiene and safety, as well as request that they do not encroach on roadsides and sidewalks to dry fish, violating road traffic regulations.
