Continuing the heroic spirit in the heroic Soviet homeland
(Baonghean.vn) - 93 years have passed with many ups and downs, life in the former Soviet Nghe Tinh countryside has now changed and improved a lot. Continuing the spirit of our ancestors, today's generation is making joint efforts to build a rich and beautiful homeland, together looking towards a bright future.
Where blood was once shed
Having the opportunity to travel up and down National Highway 46, passing through Hung Nguyen town (Hung Nguyen), passengers are impressed with a new large-scale square, a cluster of monuments depicting the image of farmers rising up to fight to eliminate tyranny. That is the Nghe Tinh Soviet Square, nearly 13 hectares wide, about to be completed with an investment of 245 billion VND for 25 items.
Mr. Le Thanh Hung - Director of the Center for Culture - Sports and Communications of Hung Nguyen district said: "Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Square was built to honor and pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed on September 12, 1930. This will be a cultural activity spot for local people and a "red address" for tourists to visit and pay tribute to their ancestors who died for their homeland and country...".

According to the documents on the stele, the square's location marked the heroic struggle of the people of Hung Nguyen district and neighboring areas in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930 - 1931).
At the same time, it was a place that witnessed the brutal crimes of feudal colonialism. On the morning of September 12, 1930, about 8,000 farmers from 3 communes: Phu Long, Thong Lang (Hung Nguyen) and Nam Kim (Nam Dan) under the leadership of the Party, equipped with rudimentary weapons, raised high the red flag of hammer and sickle and marched to Hung Nguyen district capital.
When the protesters had just arrived at Thai Lao, the French colonialists dropped bombs on the crowd, killing and injuring many people. In the afternoon, when people came out to mourn and bury the dead, the French planes dropped bombs again. The brutal terror left 217 people dead, 125 injured and dozens arrested, shocking public opinion domestically and internationally.
After 93 years, today Hung Nguyen countryside has really flourished, life is changing every day. Hung Nguyen town is increasingly crowded and bustling with all kinds of services. The villages have also really changed with spacious houses, clean and beautiful asphalt and concrete roads and high-yield fields.

Currently, the economic growth rate is nearly 14%, the economic structure of the district is shifting in a positive direction, gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery, gradually increasing the proportion of industry. In 2020, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounted for 19.3%, by 2023 it is estimated to decrease to 13.7%; the industry - construction sector in 2020 accounted for 44.7%, by 2023 it accounted for 55.6%; the service sector remains quite stable, fluctuating between 35.9% - 30.7%.

In particular, in Hung Nguyen district, VSIP Industrial Park has attracted many domestic and international investors with capital of up to more than 250 million USD. This industrial park has created jobs for tens of thousands of workers, of which the majority are local people.

At the same time, VSIP Industrial Park also contributes to changing the face of Hung Nguyen countryside and promoting the industrialization and modernization process of the whole province...
Under the roof of Vo Liet communal house
From Hung Nguyen district, continuing up National Highway 46, we reached Vo Liet land (Thanh Chuong), a rural area that was once seething with the struggle movement during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of 1930-1931. Today, the majestic Vo Liet communal house remains - a vestige of the "revolutionary storm" period.
On the morning of June 1, 1930, people gathered at Vo Liet communal house with sticks and hoes and then marched to the district office to submit their demands. Faced with the strong fighting spirit of the masses, district chief Phan Thanh Ky had to accept the demands of the masses with the promise to submit them to the authorities for consideration and resolution.
On September 1, 1930, under the leadership of the Party, 20,000 people crossed the Lam River to surround the district office, causing the district magistrate and local officials to panic. Faced with the disintegration of the local village apparatus, the Party cell met at Vo Liet communal house and decided to establish the Red Peasant Association and openly handle all matters as a revolutionary government. Vo Liet communal house became the headquarters of the Soviet government...

Like many other rural areas, Vo Liet commune is now reaching out and achieving many achievements in socio-economic development. According to Mr. Bui Xuan Linh - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Vo Liet currently has nearly 11,000 people, the poverty rate is only 0.3%, the average income per capita is 47 million VND/year. The income of Vo Liet people is still basically agricultural production, thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances, diversification of crops and livestock, so productivity and output have increased, and income is increasingly stable.
The spacious infrastructure system, especially convenient transportation, creates favorable conditions for Vo Liet commune to develop its economy and services. The commune has National Highways 46 and 46C passing through, not far from Ho Chi Minh Road and Thanh Thuy Border Gate, which is an advantage that promises new developments and acceleration towards the new rural destination in the near future.

“The commune’s commercial center project has been invested in on a large scale and is about to be completed, and schools in the area have been solidly built, contributing to making Vo Liet commune the top of the district in terms of education quality. Everything is ready for the assessment of the advanced new rural criteria at the end of this year,” said Chairman of the Commune People’s Committee Bui Xuan Linh.
Along with Vo Liet commune, other localities of Thanh Chuong are also changing strongly in development fields. The whole district's economy has a fairly good growth rate and is shifting in the right direction, with an average growth rate of production value reaching 7.55%.
Average income per capita reached nearly 47 million VND/year; economic structure is shifting strongly towards increasing the proportion of industry and services; achieving many results in building new rural areas. In particular, Thanh Chuong district has built a number of branded products such as industrial tea, hill chicken, tea island eco-tourism sites, etc.
This early Autumn, passing through the Soviet countryside of Nghe Tinh, I suddenly remembered Dang Chanh Ky's "Revolutionary Song":“There Ben Thuy stood up first/There Thanh Chuong followed, stepping up/Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, HungNguyen/Anh Son, Ha Tinh woke up once…”. Thanks to the heroic spirit of the past, these rural areas are turning around, continuing to rise up in a new life, worthy of being the heroic Soviet homeland./.
