1. 11th National Congress

The 11th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for the 2017-2022 term officially opened on the morning of December 10. Attending the Congress were 1,000 delegates who are outstanding officials and union members representing more than 6.4 million union members and nearly 24 million Vietnamese youths at home and abroad.
The Congress discussed and approved important documents: Political report of the 10th Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union at the 11th National Youth Union Congress; Review report of the 10th Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, term 2012 - 2017; Amended and supplemented Youth Union Charter.
The Congress promoted democracy to elect the Central Executive Committee of the 11th term of the Youth Union, consisting of 151 qualified members, representing the youth of the whole country. In the first meeting, the Executive Committee elected a 31-member Standing Committee and a 4-member Central Secretariat of the Youth Union. Among them, Mr. Le Quoc Phong, First Secretary of the 10th Central Youth Union, was re-elected as First Secretary of the 11th Central Youth Union.
2. Closing of the 19th Session of the National Assembly Standing Committee

On December 14, under the chair of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the 14th National Assembly Standing Committee closed its 19th session.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that at this meeting, the National Assembly Standing Committee reviewed the results of the fourth session and gave initial comments on preparations for the fifth session of the 14th National Assembly; reviewed the Report on the results of supervision of the issuance of resolutions and activities of People's Councils of provinces and centrally run cities.
The National Assembly Standing Committee has agreed to supplement funding for purchasing national rice reserves, agreed on the policy of issuing a Government Decree on exhibition activities; reviewed and approved the proposal to appoint four ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2017-2020 term in a number of countries, along with many other important contents...
The National Assembly Chairman requested the Government to take into account the opinions at the meeting to implement the work content in accordance with its authority. The Secretary General of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the Nationalities Council; the National Assembly committees, and the Delegation Affairs Committee closely coordinate to prepare the official notice of the National Assembly Standing Committee so that relevant agencies have a basis for implementation.
3. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attends the Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) 2017

On December 13, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and delivered a speech at the Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) 2017 with the theme "Increasing productivity, a lever for sustainable growth".
Speaking at the Forum, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the theme "Increasing productivity, the lever of sustainable growth" and the fact that VDF 2017 chose this theme shows the harmony in thinking and viewpoints of the Government and development partners of Vietnam.
According to the Prime Minister, the statements and studies at the Forum showed that productivity growth is playing an increasingly decisive role in Vietnam's GDP growth. Labor productivity growth contributed to 89% of GDP growth in 2017, up from 66.3% in the 1990-2000 period and 61.9% in the 2000-2012 period. Recognizing this, the Government's report to the National Assembly in 2018 took the theme "Improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness, encouraging innovation and startups".

The General Secretary expressed his agreement with the Political Report at the Congress, demonstrating the spirit of innovation, intelligence, democracy, solidarity, and seriously grasping the guiding ideology of the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the resolutions of the Central Executive Committee.
5. Prosecution of biological father for abusing 10-year-old son

On the morning of December 11, Cau Giay District Police (Hanoi) issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Tran Hoai Nam (born in 1983, in Nghia Do, Cau Giay, Hanoi) and Pham Thi Tu Trinh (born in 1983, in Ba Ria Vung Tau) for the crime of "Abusing or torturing grandparents, parents, spouses, children, grandchildren, and people who have raised you" under Article 151 of the Penal Code.
The Cau Giay District Police Investigation Agency issued an arrest warrant to temporarily detain Tran Hoai Nam for 2 months. As for Pham Thi Tu Trinh, the investigation agency released her on bail but banned her from leaving the country to serve the investigation.
