Speaking at a discussion session of the South Korean National Assembly, the NIS also said Pyongyang could restart the production of spent fuel rods at the Yongbyon nuclear complex by the end of this year.

Yonhap news agency quoted a lawmaker present at the discussion as saying that the NIS believes North Korea will continue to conduct nuclear tests and push ahead with plans to develop and diversify miniaturized warheads.

Evidence collected by the NIS shows that vehicle transportation is still ongoing at the missile research facility in Pyongyang while the No. 3 launch pad at the Punggye-ri test site is ready for a new nuclear test.

In addition, the NIS also warned of the risk that this nuclear test site could collapse if Pyongyang continues to conduct nuclear tests, which would lead to serious consequences if radiation were to leak.

On the same day, South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Noh Kyu-duk announced that the country is still closely coordinating with the US regarding Washington's efforts to pursue direct diplomatic activities with Pyongyang./.
