The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has just released a photo of the Calabash Nebula located 5,000 light years from Earth, one of the most foul-smelling places in the universe.

NASA has just revealed a photo of a gas cloud called the Calabash Nebula, also known as the Rotten Egg Nebula, located 5,000 light years from Earth, Sun reported. This is one of the most unpleasant-smelling places in the universe because the Calabash Nebula contains a lot of sulfur, an element that when combined with other elements will create a smell like rotten eggs.

This NASA image shows the nebula was formed by material ejected from a dead star about the size of the Sun.

"It is rapidly transforming from a red giant star into a planetary nebula, a process that is releasing gas and dust from the star's outer layers into surrounding space," NASA wrote.

Scientists rarely capture this phase in a star because it only lasts a few thousand years, a very short time in astronomical terms.
