With the goal of achieving 1,206,260 tons of food output by 2017, Nghe An strives to cultivate 89 thousand hectares of rice (45 thousand hectares of hybrid rice, 45 thousand hectares of pure rice). In particular, there are 30 thousand hectares of quality rice. In addition, there are 108 thousand hectares of corn (19,000 hectares of corn for grain and 3,000 hectares of corn for animal feed); 10,000 hectares of vegetables and 1,000 hectares of beans of all kinds.

In 2017, spring begins on February 4, 2017 (January 9, 2017 lunar calendar), so rice fields will be planted after Tet. Based on the growth period of each variety, the sowing and planting schedule will be arranged to ensure that spring rice blooms from April 25 to May 5; do not sow too early to avoid the rice panicling and blooming in the cold.

Particularly in the summer-autumn production areas that are prone to flooding, spring rice should be planted from April 20 to April 25 and varieties with a growing period of around 125 days should be selected, and seedlings should be sown from January 15 to 20; corn should be sown from February 1 to February 28. As for peanuts, take advantage of moist soil and warm weather to sow around the beginning of spring, finish sowing before February 18 and do not sow too early. In the midlands, mountainous areas, and highlands that are prone to early drought, planting should be done earlier to prevent late-season drought.

In addition to strictly implementing the crop calendar and organizing seedling planting, it is necessary to do a good job of plant protection, promote the implementation and expansion of technical advances in agricultural extension work on plant protection such as the SRI improved rice intensification process, the ICM 3 reduction 3 increase program...

In the context of complex weather conditions, it is necessary to have proactive plans to cope with droughts, especially in the downstream areas, semi-mountainous areas and mountainous areas. In particular, relevant agencies must further strengthen state management of the production and trading of plant varieties, pesticides, etc., and only use varieties listed in the structure according to the 2017 Spring Crop Production Project of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
