Evening of June 1: 90 more positive cases; Ministry of Health reviews Sinopharm vaccine records

(Baonghean.vn) - The Ministry of Health said it is reviewing the dossier of the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Sinopharm (China) for conditional emergency licensing.

The Ministry of Health on the evening of June 1 recorded 90 positive cases of nCoV, including 89 domestic cases and 1 imported case that was immediately quarantined.

Thus, on June 1, Vietnam recorded 251 more infections, including 250 domestic cases mainly in Bac Giang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, and 1 case isolated immediately after entering the country in An Giang. Dong Thap recorded its first Covid-19 case in this outbreak, bringing the number of provinces and cities with the epidemic to 37.

90 new cases tonight were recorded from number 7483-7572. Of which, 89 cases were recorded domestically including in Bac Giang 47, Bac Ninh 10, Ho Chi Minh City 19, Lang Son 4, Hanoi 2, Ha Nam 2, Long An 2, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh and Vinh Phuc each 1.

The number of new cases tonight brings the total number of infections in Bac Giang to 2,376, Bac Ninh to 876, Hanoi to 414 (including 93 cases at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, 50 cases at K Hospital), Ho Chi Minh City to 227, Vinh Phuc to 90, Lang Son to 77, Ha Nam to 45, Long An to 8, Tra Vinh to 2, Dong Thap to 1 case. The total number of community infections from April 27 to now is 4,496.

Meanwhile, on June 1, the Ministry of Health said it was reviewing the dossier of the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Sinopharm (China) for conditional emergency licensing.

Experts are urgently reviewing the documents, working even on weekends. Some of the documents still need to be supplemented, so the Ministry of Health is continuing to work with the Chinese side.

Sinopharm's Covid-19 vaccine was approved by China on December 24 last year and received emergency approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) in May. On May 27, the company published the results of a phase 3 trial in the Journal of the American Medical Association, saying the vaccine was 78.1% effective against symptomatic cases and 73.5% effective against asymptomatic cases.

As of early May, about 42 countries and territories around the world are using Sinopharm's Covid-19 vaccine. The total number of doses provided is 200 million, after vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Vietnam has granted emergency approval for two Covid-19 vaccines, AstraZeneca (UK) and Sputnik V (Russia). Of which, the AstraZeneca vaccine is being deployed domestically for injection to priority groups on the front lines of the fight against the epidemic. The total number of doses injected is more than 1.1 million, the proportion of people who have received at least 1 dose, accounting for about 1% of the population.

The Ministry of Health is mobilizing all resources, continuously working with embassies of India, the US, China, Japan... international organizations and the European Union to soon access sources and purchase more vaccines. The goal is to inject a total of 150 million doses, achieving immunity in 2021. Currently, only more than 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been committed to providing, enough to vaccinate 70% of the population aged 18 and over, about 40 million doses short of the set target.
