Honoring David Beckham as a legend, LA Galaxy does something surprising in MLS
Although he only played football for 6 years in the US, with the huge contributions to the tournament of former midfielder David Beckham, MLS club LA Galaxy decided to build a statue of this legend.
Leaving Europe to move to the US with LA Galaxy since 2007, David Beckham has made a special mark in MLS and contributed to promoting the image of the tournament.
During his 6 years playing here, Beckham won the MLS championship twice in a row in 2011 and 2012, and at the same time created a trend of European stars coming to America to play after their prime.
To honor David Beckham's contributions, LA Galaxy decided to erect a statue of the English legend outside the Dignity Health Sports Park complex, making him the first player to receive this honor in the history of America's top league.
The statue is expected to be unveiled before LA Galaxy's first match of the upcoming season on March 2 against Chicago Fire.
David Beckham made his name at MU, before leaving in 2003 to play for Real Madrid for 4 years. In 2013, he moved to PSG and retired at the end of that season.
He is currently a shareholder in amateur club Salford City, along with former Manchester United teammates Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. Beckham is also a co-owner of Inter Miami, which will be promoted to MLS in 2020.
