US President invites Vietnamese Prime Minister to Washington to attend ASEAN-US Summit

US President Joe Biden has just sent a letter inviting Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other ASEAN leaders to attend the US-ASEAN Special Summit in Washington DC.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told the press at a regular press conference that the US President had sent an invitation letter.Prime ministerand ASEAN leaders to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit in Washington DC in the coming time.

ASEAN countries agreed with the US proposal to hold the conference. The parties are discussing issues related to the conference, including the timing of the conference.

The White House said on February 28 that US President Joe Biden will host a special summit to welcome leaders of ASEAN countries on March 28-29 in Washington DC.

The summit will celebrate 45 years of US-ASEAN diplomatic relations.

“A top priority for the Biden-Harris administration is to be a strong, trusted partner to strengthen an empowered and unified ASEAN to address the challenges of our time,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced about the summit.

During a visit to Southeast Asia in December 2021, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that ASEAN “plays an important role in the architecture of the Indo-Pacific region”.
