How many times has Russian President Putin visited Vietnam?

First time (March 1, 2001)

From February 28 to March 2, 2001, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir V. Putin made the first official visit to Vietnam by a Russian head of state. The main purpose of the visit was to determine the strategic directions for the development of Russia-Vietnam relations in the 21st century.

During this visit, Mr. Putin represented Russia in signing a joint statement on strategic partnership with Vietnam, along with an intergovernmental protocol on reviewing the treaty-legal basis and validity of bilateral treaties and agreements, documents on expanding cooperation in the field of oil and gas exploitation, coordination of actions in the field of standardization, prevention and overcoming of consequences of natural disasters and issues in the interbank field.

In addition, the heads of the two states also identified promising directions for economic cooperation, especially in electric power, agro-industrial complexes, light industry, fisheries and other sectors in which both sides have advantages.

During this visit, Mr. Putin also had notable activities such as visiting the Temple of Literature and meeting Vietnamese people who had studied in Russia.

Second time (November 2006)

At the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet, on November 20, 2006, President of the Russian Federation Putin paid an official visit to Vietnam after attending the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting held in Hanoi.

During this visit, Mr. Putin had many talks with senior leaders of Vietnam. He met with General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

President Putin held talks with President Nguyen Minh Triet on issues of mutual concern, especially promoting cooperation in economics, energy, tourism, education, science and technology...

After the talks between President Putin and President Nguyen Minh Triet, many cooperation agreements on banking, oil and gas, and tourism between the two countries were signed.

Third time (November 12, 2013)

At the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir. Putin paid a State visit to Vietnam on November 12, 2013. This was the third visit of Russian President Vladimir. Putin to Vietnam.

The visit took place a few days after an event that Vietnam was very interested in demonstrating the special relationship between the two countries took place. On November 7, Russia officially handed over the first Kilo 636 submarine named Hanoi to Vietnam.

Fourth time (November 10, 2017)

On November 10, 2017, Russian President Putin arrived in Da Nang to attend the 2017 APEC Summit and other activities within the framework of the 2017 APEC Summit Week, held in this city.
