The new version of the National Security Strategy emphasizes that “In the context of implementing a deliberate policy aimed at containing the Russian Federation, strengthening sovereignty, independence, territorial and state integrity, protecting the traditional spiritual and moral foundations of Russian society, ensuring defense and security, preventing interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation is of vital importance for the country.”
One of the key issues outlined in the new Strategy is the emphasis on the growing importance of the country's defense. Among the main tasks, Russia prioritizes protecting the national interests of Russian citizens inside Russia and abroad.
The strategy states that, in order to protect Russia's national interests from external and internal threats, "including unfriendly foreign actions", it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of using the existing achievements and competitive advantages of the Russian Federation, taking into account long-term trends in world development.
The new version of the National Security Strategy considers NATO's construction of military infrastructure near the Russian border, increased intelligence activities, etc., to increase military dangers and military threats to the Russian Federation. The National Security Strategy has just been approved and will take effect from July 2, 2021.
