The announcement came just days after US President Donald Trump abandoned the Iran nuclear deal, citing concerns over Tehran's alleged "state sponsor" of terrorism.
During the phone call, President Rouhani said: “Iran has always tried to reduce tensions in the Middle East. The war that Iran, together with Iraq and Syria, fought against IS terrorists has brought a relatively good level of security to Syria and Iraq.”
According to Mr. Rouhani, the country's anti-terrorism efforts "have helped the region and the world, including Europe." Also in the phone call, the Iranian leader affirmed: "Thanks to the determination to achieve and maintain regional stability and security, Iran always strives to reduce tensions in the region. This country never "welcomes" more tensions under any conditions."
However, President Trump has consistently called Iran the world’s “leading state sponsor of terrorism” when he announced the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal on May 8. This is not the first time the US President has accused the Middle Eastern country of being involved in terrorism./.
