Former FBI Director James Comey's hearing did not cause much difficulty for President Trump, but he and the White House still have many challenges ahead.

On June 7, former Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey participated in a public hearing before the US Senate Intelligence Committee regarding allegations that US President Donald Trump asked him to conceal information in the investigation related to Russia. Accordingly, the former FBI director accused the Trump administration of "deception" and "defamation" while stating the reason for firing him last May. Mr. Comey said that US law does not stipulate a reason for firing the FBI Director, so the White House chose to "defame" him and the FBI by claiming that the agency was in chaos, had weak leadership and employees lost confidence in the leadership. According to the former FBI Director, the above reasons are "deception" of President Donald Trump.

However, Mr. James Comey did not provide any new evidence about the accusation that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, and this was the biggest disadvantage for Mr. Comey. It is known that Senator Marco Rubio, a former opponent of Mr. Trump in the race to the White House in 2016, sometimes appeared to defend the US President at the hearing. Rubio asked Comey why the former FBI director did not directly tell the President that he was making inappropriate requests related to the investigation during their conversations. Comey replied that he did not know. "I was stunned and my mind was no longer clear," said the former FBI director.

Shortly thereafter, the White House denied Mr. Comey's accusations. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said that President Donald Trump pledged that the election last year was fair and protected from outside interference.

“I can assure you that the President is not a liar. He takes elections seriously,” Sanders stressed.

For his part, Mr. Donald Trump declared that he would fight against all enemies who are trying to damage his presidency. Speaking shortly after the hearing before supporters in Washington, the US President declared that his administration is facing many hostile forces.

“We know how to fight better than anyone, and we never, ever give up. We are winners, and we will fight and we will win,” Mr. Trump said.

US President Trump is likely to face more problems in the coming months if the investigation into Russian interference in the US election continues to attract attention, while the White House needs to focus on other priorities such as repealing the Obamacare affordable health care law or revising tax regulations.
