US President Trump today mentioned Hai Ba Trung when talking about freedom and independence in his speech at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in Da Nang.
He said they awakened the spirit of the Vietnamese people. "The patriots of history hold the answers to our future. They remind us who we are, remind us what we do," he said.
"We have the power to lift our people and our world to new heights. Let us choose a future of patriotism, prosperity, and freedom from poverty. Let us choose a free and open Indo-Pacific," the US President emphasized.
Mr. Trump also mentioned that Vietnam had many difficulties in the 1990s but is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Vietnamese students are among the best in the world.
The US President sympathized with those affected by Typhoon Damrey. "The American people are praying for you and looking forward to your recovery in the months ahead. Our hearts go out to the people of Vietnam affected by this terrible storm," Mr. Trump said.
