At the National Funeral Home, the funeral of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was held in a solemn and emotional atmosphere. The coffin of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was placed in the most solemn position, in the middle of the altar, covered with a bright red national flag. On the altar was a national flag with a black ribbon, highlighting the words "Deeply mourning comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam" and his portrait.
With the sad background music of "Soul of the Dead Soldier", at exactly 7 o'clock, the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was solemnly held.

Flag-lowering ceremony for State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
At exactly 6:00 a.m. on July 25, the flag-lowering ceremony took place solemnly at Ba Dinh Square (Hanoi), marking the time of the State Funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from July 25-26.
The honor guard of the Command protecting President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum carries a flag with a mourning band to perform the flag-raising ceremony.
At the time of the ceremony, the weather in Hanoi was cloudy. A large number of people, including many Youth Union members, were present at Ba Dinh Square early to witness the flag-lowering ceremony. When the flag was raised, many people could not hold back their tears.
During the National Funeral, agencies and offices nationwide and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad must fly flags at half-mast, with mourning bands (1/10 the width of the flag, the length of the flag, and only hang the flag to 2/3 the height of the flagpole, using black cloth to tie the flag so it does not fly), and no public entertainment activities are organized.


On the evening of July 25, there will be no flag lowering ceremony as usual, but the flag will be flown at half-mast continuously during the two days of national mourning, July 25 and 26, to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the 7th Mid-Term National Delegates Conference of the Party (January 1994), he was elected to the Party Central Committee. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms.
August 1996 - February 1998: He was Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, concurrently Head of the University Personnel Committee and directly in charge of the Hanoi Party Committee's Propaganda Department.
At the 4th Conference of the Party Central Committee, 8th tenure (December 1997), he was elected to the Politburo. He was a member of the Politburo of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures.
February 1998 - January 2000: Comrade in charge of the Party's Ideology - Culture and Science and Education work.
March 1998 - November 2006: He was Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, in charge of the Party's theoretical work (November 2001 - August 2006).

August 2016 - present: He participated in the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee for the 2015 - 2020 and 2020 - 2025 terms.
October 2018 - April 2021: He served as General Secretary and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2016-2021 term; Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council.
April 2021 - present: He is General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Head of the Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption and anti-negativity.
Due to his great and exceptionally outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-year Party membership badge, and many other noble orders and medals of Vietnam and the world: "National Gold Medal" of the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, "Friendship Medal" of the Party and State of the People's Republic of China, "Lenin Prize" the most noble award of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; "José Marti Medal" of the Party and State of the Republic of Cuba, and many other noble titles.
