Village boy accepts to 'exchange' 20 million VND for... death sentence!
(Baonghean.vn) - On the way back from the market, Va Xong Po (residing in Que Phong district, Nghe An) was hired by someone to transport more than 1.9 kg of drugs and Po agreed. In court, the defendant stated that he "would accept any punishment from the court" and was sentenced to death.
Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Va Xong Po (born 1969), residing in Muong Long village, Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of“Illegal drug trafficking”.
According to the case file, at around 5:00 p.m. on December 21, 2020, Va Xong Po was returning home from the market when he met a Laotian man. This man hired Po to transport drugs to Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, to deliver to a woman and then received 400 million VND to bring back and would be paid 20 million VND as a fee.

Dazzled by the large amount of money, Va Xong Po agreed to receive a bag of drugs and 5 million VND from the Laotian above. Po put the drugs in his jacket and then traveled by motorbike to the instructed location.
When Va Xong Po was standing on the side of the road at Phu Huong intersection, Tien Phong commune, the police arrested him with more than 1.9 kg of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted his crime. He blamed his difficult circumstances and poverty for agreeing to transport drugs. And Xong Po stated that he “would accept any punishment from the court”.
Considering that the amount of drugs that the defendant participated in buying and selling in this case was exceptionally large, the panel sentenced Va Xong Po to death for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
