ASEAN Press Photo Awards on Climate Change

The award ceremony of the photo contest "ASEAN Press Confederation actively raises awareness of climate change" took place this morning, November 27, 2015, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Mr. Ha Minh Hue, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, said: "Climate change is a global phenomenon, affecting all aspects of life. ASEAN countries are affected first and most. Therefore, the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists and the Vietnam Journalists Association organize a journalism award called "The Confederation of ASEAN Journalists actively raises awareness of climate change" for all journalists in the region.

After a period of launching, the Organizing Committee received nearly 100 entries from member countries.

12 judges from 6 member countries judged and decided to award 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize, 1 Third Prize and 5 Consolation Prizes. Of which, the Vietnam Journalists Association had 1 Third Prize and 2 Consolation Prizes.

Specific results: 1 First prize worth 1,000 USD went to the work “South Sumatera Land Fire” by Fanny Octavianus, ANTARA News Agency, Indonesian Journalists Association. Photo taken on August 5, 2015, recording images of forest fire in a logging area in Jambi province, Sumatera island.

1 Second Prize worth 800 USD went to “Sumatera Forest” by Jessica Helena Wuysang, ANTARA News Agency, Indonesian Journalists Association. The photo was taken on September 16, 2015, showing an officer of the Ogan Ilir Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) trying to put out a fire in Sei Rambutan village, Ogan Ilir, Indralaya, South Sumatera. This is a difficult-to-access area, so the officers of the Regional Disaster Management Agency and the Indonesian military had to devote all their forces to extinguish the fire.

1 Third prize worth 500 USD went to the work "Ban Khoang devastated after flash flood" by author Pham Bang, Lao Cai Newspaper, Vietnam Journalists Association.
