Becoming a student at Hanoi Medical University with the dream of curing his father's illness

(Baonghean.vn) - With the dream of becoming a doctor to cure his father's illness, Vo Hong Duc - was determined to pass the entrance exam to Hanoi Medical University.

Vo Hong Duc, born in 1999 in Hong Thang hamlet, Nghia Hong commune, is an excellent student in class 12A1, Co Do High School. In the recent National High School Exam, Vo Hong Duc passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Science with a score of 29.6 (Math: 9.6; Chemistry: 9.75 and Biology: 8.75, priority score 1.5) and became the student with the highest score in Nghia Dan district.

Born into a family of two brothers, Duc is the eldest, his younger brother is currently in 5th grade. His mother sells pharmaceuticals in the commune while his father stays home to develop livestock. In 2000, after testing, it was discovered that his father had hypothyroidism. His whole family tried to find a cure everywhere. Due to difficult economic conditions, the family had to spend 40-50 million VND each year to treat his father, but the disease did not improve.

Therefore, Hong Duc always wondered and thought about doing something to help his father. He confided: "Seeing my father sick all the time, I just tried my best to study well to get into the medical university with the hope of being able to research and find a way to cure my father's illness."

Not letting his parents worry about his studies, throughout 12 years of school he has been an excellent student, always leading the class in academic achievement. Teacher Tran Thi Thanh Hai - Vice Principal of Co Do High School assessed: "Vo Hong Duc is a well-behaved, polite student, has good academic achievements and is very filial. In the 2017 National High School Exam, he achieved a score ofhighest in the school. The school is very proud of your achievements.”

Sharing his study secrets, Duc said: I only study at school, the rest of the time I study at home. When studying in class, I have to concentrate to absorb knowledge right in class. If I don't understand something, I can ask my teacher or classmates right in class, that way I will remember the knowledge more deeply. When I'm at home, I study more in reference books. I borrow more documents from friends and teachers, if I don't understand, I study online. Especially, when studying, I need to concentrate, visualize what problems need to be solved first, what problems need to be solved later."

Outside of class, Duc often helps his parents with housework, taking care of his younger sibling and his grandmother who is over 70 years old, especially when his father often goes to Hanoi for medical treatment. During their time studying, not only Duc but both brothers were good children and good students with impressive academic achievements.

Teacher Nguyen Tan Sinh - Vice President of the Association for the Promotion of Education of Nghia Hong Commune said: "Although Duc's family has many difficulties, the two brothers have tried very hard, especially Vo Hong Duc, with his excellent academic achievements, has become a typical example of the commune, motivating many young people of the commune to strive to excel."

In just a few days, he will enter the University of Medicine, "more than anyone else, I will always strive to become a good doctor, help the poor, especially to find a way to cure my father's illness", Duc said./.
