In 2015, many households in Hamlet 17, Phuc Thanh Commune boldly bid for more than 17 hectares of water surface to invest in lotus cultivation. Mr. Le Van Huy's family alone invested over 30 million VND to renovate 3 hectares of ponds, plant native lotus varieties, and combine with aquaculture. Mr. Huy said: Thanks to the application of science and technology in care, the lotus plants grow well, bloom a lot, and bring high economic efficiency.

The lotus grown by Phuc Thanh farmers is a native variety, with characteristic deep pink color, bright, many seeds and very fragrant.

The advantage of lotus is that planting it once can yield harvests for many years. Growing lotus requires little care, low investment costs, and high income, so many households in Phuc Thanh have received 4-5 hectares of water surface to grow this flower.

The lotus harvest lasted from May to August, and lotus growers earned a profit of over 200 million VND/ha. Mr. Dinh Van Duong - Party Secretary - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh Yen Thanh commune said: The People's Committee of the commune plans to expand some lotus growing areas in Nha Ve dam, Lang Moi dam and some water surface areas associated with Duc Hoang Temple relic, Thien Tao pagoda, Quan Temple... increasing the total area to about 30 hectares.

Lotus ponds in the middle of villages not only beautify the natural and ecological landscape, but also attract tourists to come and enjoy. The commune will also sign contracts with some pharmaceutical companies to consume lotus products, helping local farmers develop lotus cultivation - a high-income crop.
