Drug lord demands to 'give' police 300 million to escape punishment

(Baonghean.vn) - When arrested, drug lord Lau Va Chu offered to "give" the police 300 million VND. However, when he was brought to the investigation agency's headquarters, he immediately turned around and blamed his juniors in an attempt to deny his crime.

On May 12, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (PC47) - Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and temporarily detain Lau Va Chu (born in 1976), Va Ba Mua (born in 1988), both residing in Muong Long commune, Ky Son district, and Vu Ba Tu (born in 1986), residing in Huoi Tu commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of illegal drug trafficking. In which, Lau Va Chu was identified as the leader of the illegal drug trafficking ring from Laos to Vietnam from the beginning of 2016 until now.

In early 2016, the reconnaissance force discovered many signs of an illegal drug trafficking ring from Laos to Vietnam led by Lau Va Chu. Lau Va Chu is a drug addict, has no stable job but has bought expensive cars, spends freely, and often disappears from the area for short periods of time.

Every time Chu disappeared from the locality, Va Ba Mua and Vu Ba Tu were also not at home. Determining that these were subjects in a transnational drug ring, with the determination to destroy this ring, PC47 asked for the opinion of the Provincial Police Department's Board of Directors, and established a special project coded 116C to fight.

After a long period of monitoring the movements of the subjects, the intelligence source reported that on the evening of May 5, Lau Va Chu and his accomplices would move from Ky Son to Vinh city to deliver the goods. Department PC47 coordinated with the Department of Road and Railway Traffic Police to deploy forces to intercept.

On the evening of May 5, a car with Laotian license plate NU 0070, driven by Lau Va Chu himself, traveled from Muong Xen town (Ky Son) to Vinh city at high speed. Working groups of two units were ordered to block at various locations on Highway 7, while another group followed the car.

“Taking advantage of the deserted night, Lau Va Chu’s pickup truck drove at breakneck speed. The investigation team’s car had a hard time following him because it had to keep a reasonable distance to avoid being detected. When reaching the area of ​​the cassia forest (Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district), Lau Va Chu stopped the car, used heroin to “gain morale” and changed drivers, continuing to speed towards Dien Chau,” a detective recounted.

At around 1am on May 6, a pickup truck with a Laotian license plate arrived in Bao Thanh commune (Yen Thanh). Realising that the opportunity was ripe and the suspects would have no way to escape when surrounded and captured, the task force decided to set up a trap.

The Traffic Police Department's working group approached, signaled the car to stop and requested an administrative check. Lau Va Chu looked frightened but did not dare to act rashly. When the police pulled a plastic bag from under the coils of electrical wires in the back of the car, Lau Va Chu's face changed color. "The subject Lau Va Chu offered to "give" the task force 300 million VND to "let it go" but of course it was not accepted," the detective said.

At the scene, the Investigation Team seized 49 packages containing nearly 10,000 synthetic drug pills, 8 mobile phones with many promotional SIM cards and a pickup truck with a Laotian license plate. When brought to the investigation agency headquarters, Lau Va Chu and his accomplices initially gave evasive statements, blaming each other, but before the evidence previously collected by the BCA, all 3 had to bow their heads and admit their guilt.

Initially, Lau Va Chu, Va Ba Mua and Vu Ba Tu confessed that they bought the drugs from a Laotian for 5.2 million VND/package/200 pills. Each package of drugs, when brought into Vietnam, would be sold for 5.5 million VND. The investigation team determined that this drug ring had been operating for quite a long time, at one point buying, selling and transporting dozens of heroin cakes.

Currently, PC47 is completing the file to transfer to the Provincial People's Procuracy to prosecute the subjects before the law.
