China's ambition to become a technology powerhouse

Innovation is the main driving force for the country's development. That was the speech of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the opening session of the 4th session of the 12th National People's Congress - the most important political event of the year for this country.
In a draft of a new five-year development plan released on March 5, Beijing also said the purpose of using the internet is to promote economic development and increase cyberspace potential.
According to the plan, China hopes to have rapid adaptation in the technology sector, the ability to gather high-tech industries and all data to promote a more advanced and efficient economy. China will implement a "Cyber Energy Strategy", paying special attention to controlling the Internet, for national security and also the goal of becoming a technology powerhouse.
China aims to increase its control over the Internet, establish a cybersecurity assessment system, strengthen control over cyberspace, and promote a multilateral, democratic and transparent international Internet governance system.
The plan also states that China will “intensify the fight against threats from cyber security control and strengthen monitoring of public opinion via the Internet.”
2016 is the first year of China's 13th Five-Year Plan period 2016-2020, so this session of the National Assembly is attracting special public attention.
