(Baonghean.vn) - This spring, Thanh Chuong district planted 8,200 hectares of rice. People took advantage of the time to plant all the rice within the crop schedule. However, due to the prolonged cold, over 300 hectares of rice died, and many people had to plow and re-sow.

These days,Ms. Tran Thi Thuy in Linh Long Village, Thanh Linh Commune has not yet thought about shopping for Tet. Because, almost the entire area of nearly 5 sao of rice has died from the cold. Currently, with over 70% of the fields dead, Ms. Thuy has to plow and harrow again to sow directly.

"If we are impatient, we have to do it again because it is too late for the season. Furthermore, we have to sow short-term seeds, so the yield will decrease. Spring is the main crop of the year, so the family is really worried," said Ms. Tran Thi Thuy.

Ms. Thuy's family is just one of hundreds of households in Thanh Chuong district who have suffered from the cold weather of spring rice. Seedlings were sown on January 10th, and by early February, despite unfavorable weather, when the seedlings were ready to be planted and to prepare for Tet, people went to the fields to plant rice in the planned area.

By February 10, the planting was basically finished, but due to many cold and rainy spells alternating with dry sunshine and a large difference in day and night temperatures, the rice grew slowly and many died.

According to statistics from the District Plant Protection Station, the district currently has more than 320 hectares of rice dead. Concentrated mainly on pure rice and transplanted rice. Communes with large areas of dead rice are Dong Van, Cat Van, Thanh Tien - each commune has more than 50 hectares, Thanh An, Thanh Luong, Thanh Linh - each commune has about 20 hectares.

Along with weather reasons, pests such as brown rot, golden apple snails, nematodes (mainly harmful to direct-sown rice), swollen root tips make rice plants grow poorly...

Faced with this situation, Thanh Chuong district has issued an official dispatch directing service sectors and communes to focus on overcoming the situation by combining spraying stimulants, conditioners, cold protection, soil improvement, and anti-poisoning products for rice such as: PnacP, ET...

For golden apple snails, catch them manually, and spray with specific drugs in high density areas. For nematodes, if the rice plants are poorly developed, or if the rice plant is pulled up and the root tips are swollen, use one of the following drugs: Regent 800WG, Basitox 40EC, Diazol 10H, Diazal 10GR at the recommended dosage.

Spring crop is the main crop of the year. Hopefully, with dynamism and hard work, Thanh Chuong people will overcome to ensure productivity and output.
