Prosecution of 14 subjects in two gold smuggling rings worth more than 250 billion VND
The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has just concluded the investigation and transferred the case file, requesting the Procuracy to prosecute Nguyen Minh Tri (born 2000), Nguyen Hoang Sa (born 1980) and 12 other defendants for the crime of "Smuggling".
According to the investigation results, taking advantage of the difference in gold prices between Vietnam and the world and the large domestic demand for gold trading and use; living and working conditions in the Cambodia - Vietnam border area (many canals, trails, and openings) that can transport gold across the border with little inspection, subjects residing in Long An province (now Tay Ninh), An Giang, Ca Mau, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have connected and organized 2 smuggling lines of 113kg of gold, worth 252 billion VND.
Specifically, the first line was run by Nguyen Minh Tri (residing in Long An province, now Tay Ninh province).,organized and smuggled 77kg of gold, worth 172 billion VND, across the border of Long An province (now Tay Ninh province). From December 6, 2024 to December 17, 2024, Nguyen Minh Tri bought 77kg of gold in Cambodia with a total value of 172 billion VND, then handed it over to defendant Nguyen Van Sang. (permanent resident of An Giang), Cao Van Chuc organized the transportation to Ho Chi Minh City to sell to the defendants: Nguyen Chi Khoa 29kg of gold (total value of 64 billion VND), Pham Ngoc Thang 48kg (total value of 107 billion VND).
The second line, organized by Nguyen Hoang Sa, smuggled 36kg of gold, worth nearly 80 billion VND, through the border area of An Giang province. On December 11, 14, 16 and 17, 2024, Nguyen Hoang Sa organized the purchase and transportation of 5 trips, a total of 36kg of gold from Cambodia to Vietnam for consumption. Of these, 4 trips successfully transported 24kg of gold. On December 17, 2024, while transporting 12kg of gold from Cambodia to Vietnam, the defendants were discovered and arrested by the Border Guard of An Giang province.
Regarding this case, previously, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency issued a DecisionwantedDefendant Nguyen Hoang Sa. The agency calls on defendant Nguyen Hoang Sa to surrender and cooperate with the investigation to enjoy the lenient legal policy.
