From Ha Tinh to Vinh City to buy 'white goods' for use

(Baonghean.vn) - Just released from the re-education camp, Cuong continued to go to Vinh City to buy drugs for use and was arrested by the police.

On November 24, Vinh City People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of illegal drug trafficking against defendant Pham Van Quoc (33 years old, residing in Tan Loc village, Thach Dien commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh).

According to the records, Quoc has no wife or children and is “a playboy, lazy to work” and addicted to drugs. On August 19, 2015, the People’s Court of Thach Ha district issued a decision to apply administrative measures to Quoc, sending him to a compulsory education facility for a term of 24 months. Quoc just completed his sentence on August 14, 2017.

After that, Quoc continued to Vinh City to buy drugs for his own use. On the morning of August 15, 2017, at the Kenh Bac Bridge intersection (in Hung Binh Ward, Vinh City), the Hung Binh Ward Police (Vinh City) task force discovered and caught Quoc in the act of illegally storing a package of heroin weighing 0.195 grams. Quoc confessed that he went to Vinh City to buy the above amount of heroin from a man to bring back to Ha Tinh to use.

At the trial, Quoc confessed honestly, expressed remorse and asked for a lighter sentence so that he could return home to start a new life. The representative of Vinh City People's Procuracy proposed a sentence of 15-18 months in prison and exemption from fines for Quoc.

The panel of judges determined that Quoc's act of buying drugs for use was sufficient to constitute a crime, the defendant's criminal act was serious, affecting social security and order, the defendant himself had a bad personal history and needed to be strictly dealt with, and isolating the defendant from society for a period of time was necessary.

At the end of the trial, the first instance jury sentenced Quoc to 18 months in prison for illegal drug trafficking.
