Death due to sitting in a chair for 9 hours a day
To maintain stable cardiovascular health, you should exercise regularly instead of sitting in a chair for 1 or 2 hours.
How you sit is more important to your health than how long you sit, a new study has found. You need to get up regularly rather than sitting in front of a computer screen.
The study found that adults who sit still in a chair for 9 to 10 hours a day at work can lead to cardiovascular disease risks and even death.
Experts say the most important thing is to remind yourself to stand up regularly, instead of sitting in one place for long periods of time.

These scientists surveyed the amount of time people spent sitting all day and compared it to mortality rates. The results showed that people who regularly stood up and moved around every half hour (or less) were less likely to die than those who sat in their chairs all day.
Experts recommend that office workers should exercise regularly, preferably 30 minutes at a time, to maintain stable cardiovascular health.
To make the above statement, researchers from Columbia University (USA) surveyed 7,985 people over 45 years old. They found that people who sat for 1-2 hours continuously without standing up to move had a higher mortality rate than the group who stood up regularly for the same amount of time.
Dr. Keith Diaz of Columbia University Medical Center and lead author of the study said the team used activity trackers worn on the participants' bodies to measure their movement frequency over seven days (excluding sleep time).
After monitoring their health for the next four years, 340 of the survey participants died. The highest mortality rate was in the group that spent a lot of time sitting still and rarely got up to move around.
"If you have a job or lifestyle that requires you to sit for long periods of time, remember to stand up and move around every half hour to maintain stable cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of death," said Dr. Keith Diaz.
The study was published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
