Exciting Cau Ngu Festival

(Baonghean.vn)-On the morning of February 20 (ie January 13 of the lunar calendar), Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district enthusiastically held the Cau Ngu festival. This is a traditional festival held annually, through which fishermen hope for a year of favorable weather, calm seas, and full holds of fish and shrimp.

The fishing ceremony aims to express respect and remember the deceased ancestors and pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather, a successful fishing season, and a prosperous and happy life for fishermen.

The elderly and fishermen's wives all sincerely pray for their loved ones to have good luck at sea.

After the ceremony, the Organizing Committee selected four strong young men to perform the boat launching ceremony.

The boat releasing ceremony is an important ritual in the Cau Ngu festival, with the meaning of praying for a lucky new year, favorable weather, a successful fishing season, and a happy and prosperous life for fishermen.

The Cau Ngu Festival in Son Hai is a traditional local festival held on January 12 and 13 every year with rituals such as the Nghinh Than Ceremony, Cau An Ceremony... The Cau Ngu Festival consists of two main parts: The ceremony includes the opening ceremony, the announcement ceremony, the praying for fish ceremony, the great sacrifice ceremony, and the thanksgiving ceremony at the procession points such as Trung Communal House, Thoi Temple, the Memorial, and Yen Thai Pagoda. The festival includes cultural and artistic activities, folk games, and two processions. One group goes by waterway, consisting of 7 large, splendidly decorated boats, from Trung Communal House to Thoi Temple, and another group goes by land, carrying the palanquin from Trung Communal House to Thoi Temple. After that, the two groups will gather for the ceremony at Yen Thai Pagoda and return to Trung Communal House. The participating groups will wear costumes that reflect their own characteristics.
